— Portraits & personal branding

A portrait photographer
for people who hate being photographed.

Editorial portrait sessions across South Africa and beyond — for women, founders and anyone who has never quite liked a photo of themselves.

— Before we start

Most people arrive
a little bit nervous.

“I’m not photogenic.” “I don’t know what to do with my hands.” “I hate having my picture taken.”

I hear some version of this at the start of almost every session. It’s so common that I’ve stopped treating it as a problem and started treating it as the actual work.

Because being uncomfortable in front of a camera usually isn’t about how you look. It’s about being watched, and not knowing what’s expected of you, and having seen a hundred photos of yourself that felt like a stranger.

My job is to remove all of that. Not to pose you into something you’re not, but to make the room safe enough that you stop performing — because that’s the moment a portrait becomes yours.

— What a session feels like

Slower than you’re expecting.
Easier, too.

There’s no rushing, no barking instructions, and no moment where you’re left standing there wondering what to do. We talk. We move. I direct when you need it and get out of the way when you don’t.

You’ll be guided

Where to stand, where to look, what to do with your hands. You never have to invent it yourself.

You’ll see as we go

I’ll show you frames during the shoot. Seeing one you like early changes how the rest of the session feels.

Nothing is a performance

The best frames almost always arrive between the posed ones — which is exactly why we take our time.

— How it works

Nothing to prepare
except turning up.

01

We talk first

What the images are for, what you’re hoping to feel when you see them, and anything you’d rather avoid. No session starts cold.

02

Wardrobe and location

I’ll help you choose both. Most people overthink the outfit and underthink the light — I’ll steer you the other way.

03

The session itself

Unhurried, conversational, and usually more fun than people expect. You’ll leave knowing the images are good.

— What you leave with

Images you’ll actually
want to use.

  • A full gallery of edited, high-resolution images
  • Web-sized versions ready for social and LinkedIn
  • Guidance on wardrobe and location before the day
  • Personal usage, and commercial usage for branding sessions

— Questions

The things people
usually ask.

What if I’m awkward in front of a camera?

Almost everyone is, at first. That’s the part I’m actually good at — the direction, the pacing, the conversation. You don’t need to arrive confident. That’s what the session is for.

What should I wear?

We’ll talk it through before the day. As a rule: things you already feel good in, nothing brand new, and nothing you’ll spend the session adjusting.

What does a session cost?

Portrait sessions start from R2 500, depending on length, location and whether you need commercial usage for personal branding. You’ll have a fixed figure before booking.

Where do we shoot?

On location, wherever suits the images — Cape Town, Johannesburg, the Lowveld, or wherever I’m travelling. I work as a studio on location rather than from a fixed space.

How many images do I get?

A full edited gallery rather than a fixed number — typically enough to carry a website, a profile and a year of posting. Quantity has never been the point.

When will I see them?

A first selection within a week, and the full edited gallery within 15 days.
