Portrait Photography South Africa

Eleven years of portrait photography across South Africa and beyond — women, men, creatives, couples and everyone in between. Every portrait is guided, honest and made to feel completely like the person in front of the lens.

As a portrait photographer working across South Africa, I’ve spent over a decade learning how to make people feel seen. Not performed, not posed into someone else’s idea of themselves — actually seen. From my early days shooting street photography and instameets, to five years running my own portrait studio in the Vaal, to shooting on rooftops in Dahab and in the Lowveld at golden hour — my work has always followed the same intention. Find the real person. Photograph that.

Portrait photography in South Africa spans an extraordinary range of stories, faces and environments — and I’ve had the privilege of working across all of it. Women stepping into their power for personal branding shoots. Creatives bringing editorial concepts to life. Couples caught in genuine moments. Men who arrived uncertain and left with images they’re proud of. The diversity of this country is one of the greatest gifts of this work.

I operate with a fully mobile studio setup — professional lighting and gear that travels wherever the portrait demands. In-studio, on location, in nature, in the city — the quality never depends on the setting.

Notable portrait work includes the Veuve Clicquot Bold Woman Award South Africa and personal branding portraits for founders, creatives and entrepreneurs across the country.

Based in the Lowveld, available in Cape Town, Johannesburg and worldwide.

A portrait session with me is a process, not a transaction. It starts with a conversation — who you are, what this imagery is for, what you want to feel when you see yourself — and moves through styling guidance, location planning and direction the whole way through. Nobody gets told to “act natural” and left stranded in front of a lens. You are guided into the frame, and the transformation happens in the space between arriving nervous and leaving with proof of how you actually look when you are at ease in your own skin.

My background is editorial, and it shows in the finished work. Magazine-level lighting, intentional styling, locations chosen for the story rather than convenience — whether that produces a personal branding portrait for your website or an editorial concept built from scratch, the standard is the same. Personal branding photography, in particular, has become a signature of this work: founders, creatives and entrepreneurs who need imagery that carries the same ambition they do, made to hold its own next to any campaign.

Portrait photography South Africa-wide is genuinely how I work: I photograph in Cape Town and Johannesburg regularly, shoot from my home base in the Lowveld near Hoedspruit, and travel internationally — including Dahab and Egypt’s Sinai coast, a place my work keeps returning to. Wherever the session happens, the full mobile studio comes with me, so studio-quality light is never limited to a studio address.

If your portrait needs sit closer to the commercial side — campaigns, team imagery, brand storytelling — that work lives in my commercial and editorial portfolio. And if you are ready to be photographed, the easiest first step is the booking page — tell me your story, and we will build the session around it.

Every gallery you receive is hand-edited — skin kept honest, colour kept true, nothing airbrushed into anonymity. The goal is never a stranger with your haircut; it is you, on the best day of your own light. That is what people mean when they say a portrait made them feel seen, and it is the only review that matters to me.
